Unlike the existing 9-5 saloon, the replacement has a rising waistline and a hatchback rear. It will be marketed as an executive model for buyers who want to stand out from the crowd.
With captions that highlight the model's grille, which is influenced by Saab fighter planes, and a distinctive wraparound windscreen, the sketch demonstrates the aviation theme that will spread across the Saab range.
Designer Anthony Lo told us: "A crossover SUV will arrive first, followed by the 9-5. Both cars will be inspired by the Aero X." The crossover model, badged 9-2, will go on sale in the first half of next year, with the larger machine due by the end of 2007. The firm's new face will appear again in 2008, when Saab's Audi TT-rivalling coupé and roadster will be launched.
