Blessed relief for dirty cars

Churchgoers are rev-ing up to have their cars washed in holy water. Parishioners at Levenshulme Baptist Church, Manchester, are recycling the water after agreeing it was a waste to pour it away.

And the novel 'car service' has the backing of Church Minister Ian Spence (image). "We were keen to re-use the water in a responsible way," he said.

A spokesman for insurer Norwich Union added: "If it's possible to show that cars blessed in this way are involved in fewer incidents, maybe we would consider a premium reduction!"
