Rolls-Royce has taken a step back with its new Convertible – but only with the doors! As these exclusive pictures show, the world’s most luxurious drop-top has an incredible ‘suicide’ door design.

First seen in concept form as the 101EX Convertible at 2004’s Geneva Motor Show, the long-awaited newcomer is nearly ready to go on sale in the UK next year. It will be hand-built at the firm’s base in Goodwood, West Sussex, and shares many of its under- pinnings with the larger Phantom luxury saloon. The drop-top uses a similar lightweight aluminium spaceframe chassis, but is around 240mm shorter in length.

Rolls’ decision to adapt the Phantom’s barn-style doors for the convertible body makes the car unique. Inside, the sumptuous cabin will also be carried over.

Power comes from R-R’s 6.75-litre V12, and the car will top 150mph. It’s not yet known what the final cabrio will be called, but a hard-top coupé version is likely. Prices are set to start from around £200,000.
