It seems that Mercedes has given up trying to camouflage its new C-Class estate before the car’s official unveiling at next month’s Frankfurt Motor Show.
Our spies have already snapped various test mules and prototypes with different levels of disguise – but they didn’t expect to get this good a look at the model. With nothing to hide behind, it’s clear the Mercedes load-lugger doesn’t sacrifice function for form. It has an extended roofline and upright hatch for maximum carrying capacity, while a set of roof
rails further boosts practicality.
As a result, the new car is bigger inside than the outgoing model, while the rear seats fold to create a completely flat load area. Buyers will be able to specify the latest version of the boot fixing kit fitted to the larger E-Class estate. This secures small items to prevent them sliding around the load bay. As with the saloon, the five-door C-Class will be available with a choice of two front end styling options. SE and Elegance versions have
a traditional slatted grille, while the Sport model adds a three-pointed star.
The estate hits UK showrooms next spring. Prices have yet to be announced, but the load carrier is likely to command a £1,000 premium over the saloon – so entry-level cars will start from £24,000.
