Here are the pictures that prove Citroen is entering the supermini MPV market. This new variant of the C3 range will go on sale in 2008 rivalling the Nissan Note, Vauxhall Meriva and Ford’s forthcoming B-MAX.
Rumoured to be badged StreetLounge, the high-roofed compact people carrier will be based on the same platform as Peugeot’s 207 and will feature enough space for five with a sliding rear seat bench to maximise luggage room.
Taking styling cues from the C4 Picasso, it will sport a front end with bold headlights and a large double chevron grille. There’ll also be a panoramic roof too, while inside, a centrally mounted instrument binnacle will dominate the dashboard.
Engines will be shared with the 207, featuring 1.6-litre normally aspirated and turbocharged petrol units, as well as punchy HDi diesels. Gearboxes will include manual, automatic and clutchless Sensodrive transmissions.
A concept version of the StreetLounge is likely to appear at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month alongside the new C5 Airscape with sales starting toward the end of 2008. A starting price tag of £9,000 is mooted.
