Only days after the new Audi A4 was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show, our spies have captured the first pictures of the Avant.

Sharing the sharp looks of the saloon, the next generation A4 estate has sleek and sporty styling to take on the BMW 3-Series Touring. Larger dimensions all round will make the newcomer more practical, but designers won’t sacrifice the smooth sloping roofline.

Set to go on sale across Europe next summer, the load-lugger will be available with Audi’s full petrol and diesel engine range.

Like the saloon, the estate will have a new chassis to go with its fresh look. All models get a longer bonnet and extended wheelbase.

When the new four-door A4 goes on sale at the end of the year it will be available with Audi’s quattro four-wheel drive system, but basic models will feed power to the front wheels. Expect similar specifications for the estate.
