Suzuki ‘Mondeo’ takes shape

Japanese firm's blue oval rival uncovered despite its heavy disguise

It's in the bag, but under the heavy disguise it’s Suzuki’s exciting new Kizashi family car. Our spies caught the Japanese firm’s Ford Mondeo rival testing before its debut next year.

Despite all the padding, it’s possible to see that the newcomer features the same low, sweeping roofline as Suzuki’s Kizashi 3 concept car, which starred on its world debut at the Detroit Motor Show in January.

At the front will be distinctive swept-back headlamps and a bold grille. Move to the rear, and there will be a high-set tail, wraparound lights and large twin exhausts. For the cabin, the company will try to match the high-quality fit and finish of the Mondeo and Vauxhall’s forthcoming Insignia.

Power comes from a wide range of engines, including 2.0 and 2.3-litre petrol units, while flagship models get a powerful 300bhp 3.6-litre V6 and four-wheel drive. A 2.0-litre diesel version is also expected to appear.
