When Vauxhall invited Auto Express to a special Insignia unveiling event at GM’s Technical Development Centre in Russelsheim recently, GM Europe design chief Malcolm Ward assured us that the hatchback would be almost identical to the saloon.
These pictures, caught by our spy snappers at the Nurburgring, prove he was telling the truth. In fact, only a subtle difference in the slope of the rear screen and the presence of a wiper distinguish the hatchback from the saloon.
The Insignia fastback will make its debut alongside the four door at the British Motor Show in July, though it won’t hit showrooms until 2009 along with the estate variant.
Five door Insignias will match the saloon versions like-for-like, meaning front wheel and all wheel drive models will be available, powered by a wide range of petrol and diesel engines with outputs ranging from 110bhp to 260bhp.
All the latest details on the Vauxhall’s Vectra replacement can be found here, and if you’d like to be there to witness the car’s world debut, be sure to take advantage of our three-for-two ticket offer for the British Motor Show.
