VW Robust

Stay off the roads and pavements, because this beefed-up beast is coming your way!

These pictures show the Robust, VW's attempt to expand into the truck market. The pickup was spied on the Nürburgring, and shows the concept atop a Toyota body, with a double-quad cab up front and disguised rear lights at the back.

The Robust appears to be Volkswagen's answer to the successful Nissan Navara, Ford Ranger, and naturally, the Toyota Hilux. However, it also faces stiff competition from Mitsubishi's L200, which has 18years of experience behind it.

Sources say two-wheel-drive and "off-road capable" 4x4 versions will both be offered. This will give much needed practicality and flexibility to the global markets the Robust is targeted at.
