Could Buick be the next American brand to attempt to crack the UK? The new Buick Excelle has been spotted out testing in Europe, raising speculation that the model could be launched here...

Based on the Chevvy Cruze (which uses the same chassis as the new Astra), the Excelle is a ‘luxury’ variant on the theme.

While European production may not be likely, US and Chinese production certainly is.

It’s likely to get a 141bhp/176nm 1.8-litre engine, as well as a 2.0-litre diesel. Anything smaller is unlikely as it wouldn’t be in keeping with Buick’s premium image. There is a slim chance that the Excelle will get a version of the Chevvy Volt’s powertrain.
