Gumpert's crazy Apollo gets some upgrades...

Crazy just got crazier – Gumpert’s Apollo is getting an upgrade. Our spy snappers have caught the new Gumpert Apollo Speed testing at the 'ring.

Unlike the Bentley that also holds the ‘Speed’ moniker, the Gumpert is an out and out track machine. With a twin-turbo version of Audi’s 4.2-litre V8 squeezing out 800bhp and 900nm, the top of the line Apollo Speed isn’t going to be a slouch.

However, if you’re not up for that much power there are 650bhp and 700bhp variants planned too.

Other versions of the Apollo, the Race and Sport, are being built upon with the Speed. There are bigger wheel arches, a new front splitter and a newer, sleeker air intake on the roof.

The Speed also benefits from an all-new aluminium/carbon fibre sandwich underbody, adjustable dampers, 19” aluminium wheels and 378mm ventilated brakes with six-pot calipers.

The finished product will feature a special twin tone paint job and a smaller spoiler than the one on this test mule.

We’ll hear more from Gumpert later in the year at the Frankfurt Show in September.
