Mercedes' 'gullwing' SLS AMG is due to lose it's roof.... and its wings! These pictures, captured by our photographers, show that the convertible version of the SLS will replace the coupe's iconic doors with a more traditional set.

Using the same 563bhp 6.2-litre V8 AMG engine as the coupe, the soft-top will have blistering pace, reaching 60mph in less than 4 seconds on its way to a top speed just shy of 200mph.

The roof mechanism is likely to be the same powered set-up found in the SLR Roadster.

With the coupe model officially unveiled this month in Frankfurt, it's a good bet that this convertible version will be announced at the Geneva Motor Show in March next year.
