Take a look at the latest member of the new 5-Series family! Following the official pictures of BMW's latest luxury saloon come these spy shots of the 5-Series estate.
A departure from the Chris Bangle school of design leaves the new estate with a look that won't divide opinion in the same way the previous 5-Series did. Borrowing the front end from the saloon, the new car will feature cleaner lines, a lower bonnet and a more aggressive shark-like nose. At the rear the estate is more rounded than its predecessor, lending it an elegant and sport feel.
Known as the 5-Series Touring, the new car will be powered by the same four petrol and three diesel engines available in the saloon. Eco conscious motorists can opt for the stop-start equipped 520d, the most frugal 5-Series ever, which returns 56.2mpg and has CO2 emissions of just 136 g/km.
Further up the diesel range are the 525d and 530d, which both use a 3.0-litre turbocharged engine and produce 201bhp and 242bhp respectively.
The petrol line-up will begin with the 523i and tops out with the flagship 550i, powered by the same 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 from the 7-Series.
The 5-Series Touring will be released 12 months after the standard 5-series, so expect to see it hit the road sometime in 2011.
