The SLS AMG is ready to take flight... but this time without its trademark 'gullwing' doors. As the sun rose over Lapland, our spies managed to capture these shots of the upcoming SLS cabriolet and its clear that the new car hasn't lost any of its eye-catching design.
Instead of the 'gullwing' doors, the convertible will use a set of vertical opening scissor-doors like those on the SLR Roadster. Also borrowed from that car is the folding roof mechanism which will take just under 10 seconds to retract into the boot.
Using the same 563bhp 6.2-litre V8 AMG engine as the coupe, the soft-top will sprint to 60mph in less than 4 seconds and will keep accelerating to a top speed just shy of 200mph.
The SLS Roadster is expected sometime in 2011, with the most likely release date being the Geneva Motor Show of that year.
