2007-reg Diesel, Owner for 3 to 5 years

I have had a turbo dump valve and 2 glowplug elements replaced under warranty. also the main dealer under pressure "re-mapped" the dpf recycle programme when the car was just out of warranty under "goodwill". these cars are prone to "dpf issues" which mar an otherwise excellent vehicle. 17" wheels so tyres are expensive, I do most of the servicing myself with parts from gsf, motex or eurocarparts which are all reasonable. fuel consumption is nowhere near claimed especially if you have to keep the revs above 2000rom to stop the dpf problems. if you drive economically you get dpf issues and the fuel consumption just about gets to the "claimed".

Makes granite look thin and flaky, bullit proof electrics, interior fit and finish, rugged handsome family car.

Diesel is the only way to go for this car. Manual gearbox superb, great economy and boy did the 4x4 features come in handy with all the snow we have had.

Probably the best medium sized family car you could buy 2nd hand in the UK.

If you can go for the stronger of the two diesel engines as I did, well worth it.

Nothing rattles, squeaks or has fallen off ever. Cheap servicing costs too.

You are buying Japanese reliability in this brand, guaranteed.

Superb all rounder and so well built, great in black metallic ....

Only had the car 18 months after buying it at 1 year old.only required new disk pads and tyres since new. Difficult as I do such mixed driving.on good country a roads at 50-60 mph in 6th gear I get on average 55 mpg.on motorways at 70-80mph in 6th gear I get on average 45mpg.at 70 mph and above it would be good to have a higher gear as the rpm is well above 2000.on narrow b roads and tracks at 30-40 mph in 4th/5th gear I get on average 35-40 mpg.tyres seem to last about 20000 miles on such mixed driving.

Nissan's outstanding reliability shines through with this model. no problem starting up in the recent cold wheather and delighted with the handling in icy conditions. you feel really safe driving the x trail, it has excellent passenger protection and scored very well in the euro ncap crash tests. Nissan have produced the best xtrail so far. very good overall mpg and the co2 omissions have been lowered, thus the tax band reflects this.

The car has come in to its own now the weathers turned bad it always carries a full load of family plus all the clobber and still returns a reasonable to good mpg as well. After a 2000 mile journey early in the year around France I was able to get out of the driving seat with no aches & pains and it felt safe taking on the french toll roads and the country roads with ease.

The car has never let me down but I do ensure it is maintained whci keeps my cost of failures down..the car does suffer from a turbo whistle which is annoying but standard on these models. I have done 136000 miles and driven at high speed in many cases but except for the turbo whistle and tractor sounding diesel its been a good car and maintains consistant fuel costs.

Very noisy engine which may be related to the fact the injectors are very poor (had to have 2 replaced under warranty and have now given up trying to get a reasonably quiet car
much heavier on fuel than the manufacturer says is possible (by 5-6mpg), which may be related to the engine problems
otherwise a joy to drive

I did have a cold start problem (only in very cold weather) for a while turned out to be glow plug control module. Will never buy private again, on test drive and look over eveyrthing looked fine. had to fit new discs etc on brakes. did myself, very simple and very cheap discs and pads all round ł140.

The ability to switch to two wheel drive makes it a fuel saver, nice high driving position without the sheer mass that some 4x4 have. I am very pleased with the x-trail and would certainly buy another.

I have been very impressed with this car. It is an ideal family car that is great for towing our caravan. There is plenty of room for all our equipment and it is a great car for touring.

Not had it long but seems to be very good apart from the diesel particulate filter comes on about every 3 months. Was expecting this not to be too good, seems better than expected.

Comfortable 4 by 4 estate. Easy to drive, but large to park. Diesel has become quite rowdy on start up- jut over 80K miles now. Emissions are high so road tax is expensive.

No issues so far. Petrol costs are higher than an average car but I need the space and accept the weight carries an mpg penalty.
