Bumper shine
Bumper shine works wonders on tired plastic.

Super-tough bumper protectants can work wonders for tired plastic trim, restoring their colour and helping prevent them cracking or becoming brittle. They are extremely durable, too, as our eight week test (here) was only just long enough to get a result. We looked for ease of use and durability.
Our winner
Black Diamond Trim Gel
Price: £4.99

This takes a little more effort to apply than some rivals, but it’s time well spent, as the gel has great stamina. Weeks after our two-month test finished, it was still beading water vigorously. A great comeback for Black Diamond.

Halfords Black Right Back
Price: £4.49

Car care doesn’t get much easier than this – simply spray and leave for a great-looking finish with serious durability. As with our winner, the Halfords was still working long after the test had finished. It’s also the product to go for if you want the convenience of an aerosol. Plus, Black Right Black was one of the cheapest on test.
Turtle Wax Wet ‘n’ Black
Price: £4.99

Trigger pack from Turtle Wax completes our bumper shine podium. As with its rivals here, Wet ’n’ Black provided great durability – it proved impossible to separate from Halfords’ Black Right Back aerosol on performance. It also works on tyre sidewalls, so this is the choice for you if storage space is at a premium.
