It always seems to be the year of the Tiger when we test power washers, as Lavor has yet again taken the crown – making it three in a row. It breezed all our power assessments, thanks to its punchy 1.9kw motor and effective 420 litres per hour flow rate. And although the hose and lead storage isn’t particularly clever, it keeps them tidy.
The length of the hose is more than adequate, and this latest version not only tackles bodywork, but can be used in the cabin, too, as it now has a steam cleaner for upholstery and carpets. Good value and a clear winner.

Everything fits together well on this Clarke, as all the pieces click securely in place. There’s an adjustable lance, which allows the spray to be fine tuned – this scored points in our performance tests –while the package includes a wheel cleaning brush. Well thought out and deserving of our commendation.

Halfords HP125
Price Price: £99
If the Lavor and Clarke are beyond your budget, you can save £50 with Halfords’ unit. Admittedly, it doesn’t deliver quite the same grunt as its two rivals here, but it’s certainly adequate. And there are several neat touches, such as the big detergent feed and wheel brush, plus the hosepipe attachments.
