Britain’s biggest motor accessory chain can add another trophy to its bulging cabinet, because the Rapid Digital ticks all our boxes. The gauge was only 0.5psi out at our benchmark 20 and 30psi levels, and the automatic cut-out was easy to use, even finishing a little high to allow for the usual rush of air when the hose is removed.
Pumping was among the fastest tested, and the unit came complete with adaptors for sports kit and inflatables, as well as a handy light for night-time emergencies. It’s not the cheapest, but is worth the investment for the sheer convenience it offers.

If Halfords’ Rapid is out of your range, this option is a little easier on the wallet. Pumping power was good, as the Airomatic added 10psi in only 90 seconds, and the gauge was accurate, once the multiple scales were deciphered. There’s no automatic cut-out or light, but it does the job.

A clear gauge helped the big ITC compressor’s cause, as did a rapid pump designed for the large tyres found on SUVs and pick-ups. Hose storage is neatly handled by a cavity underneath. If you need serious power, this is the one to go for.
