Proving that when it comes to tyres, there’s little the French
giant doesn’t know, Michelin took a clear victory in our foot pump category. The twin-barrel unit was the largest we tested, and that paid off as it was super-stable while being pumped, and the treaded plate gave good grip. Not only was this the easiest unit to use, but it also delivered the best test result, adding 6psi in 30 presses. A long hose, accurate gauge and sports adaptors completed a great all-round package that, while not the cheapest, was certainly the best value.
Michelin Single-Barrel
Price £14.99
If boot storage is an issue, a more compact single-barrel pump is the answer. And look no further than another top-quality product from Michelin. Despite having only one cylinder, it put many double units to shame in the pump test. Again, not the cheapest – but it’s worth the money.

Draper Twin-Cylinder
Price £9.95
This double-pump product from Draper is our budget choice. It is not quite as stable during use as the two from Michelin, but it works pretty well, delivering a good pressure increase. The gauge was well within British Standard tolerances and the whole unit is excellent for the price.
