Shifting the daily dirt from your car’s seats requires a star product
Upholstery cleaner
Comma Interior Cleaner
Price £3.99
Comma 01474 564311

A Second award for Comma’s Interior Cleaner in this Product Honours. As in the trim cleaner category, it’s an unbeatable package, combing a great price with top performance. The fact it does both plastic and fabric is a real bonus. It made short work of our test stains, only the ink having some traces left. General grime shifting was as effective and could be seen not just on the seat but also the cleaning cloth. A great no-frills cleaner.
Halfords Upholstery Cleaner
Price £4.49
Our pick of the aerosols, but only just from Ixtar (bottom). The high foam version of Halfords’ upholstery cleaner starred on the ink which defeated many rivals. It also shifted our other stains and a fair amount of ground-in dirt.

Meguiar’s Carpet & Interior Cleaner
Price £4.99
The label boasts it’s ‘heavy duty’, and this US import really got to grips with our test seat, making the most progress of all in removing the ink. It also did a good job on the other stains, particularly the general grime.

Ixtar Upholstery Cleaner
Price £2.98
Work your way through the multi-lingual instructions, and this is an effective foam cleaner from French firm Ixtar, sold via Renault showrooms. It’s a bit pricey for a small 250ml can, so it’s here on its great cleaning power alone.
