Waterless Car Cleaners

With hosepipe bans now in force, we try out the best 'waterless' car cleaners

Waterless car cleaners

June 2006

Stuck with a hosepipe ban, but still want to clean your car? Then check out waterless washing products. Some have been around for a while, but Turtle Wax and CarPlan have just launched their own timely versions.

Most of the eight products we tested are sprays which loosen dirt so it can be cleared. Wipes are an alternative, while Turtle Wax’s novel approach is to use small amounts of water.

But which is the best solution for car owners hit by a hosepipe ban, as well as those who want to do their bit to conserve water? We tackled two grubby motors to find out.

Verdict

For overall performance, Armor All has the edge here. Due to its price, Miracle’s spray beats the ProKote and Dri Wash’n’Guard. And if you are on a budget, No Hose Wash contains enough solution to clean more than 15 cars with a one-litre pack.

Top 3

  1. Armor All Car Wash Wipes
  2. Miracle Drywash
  3. Turtle Wax No Hose Wash
