Ceramic radiant heaters such as this have electric elements within the plates. As these heat up, they transmit infra-red waves without the dazzling glare of some radiants. However, heat performance is compromised as a result. Initial warm-up is far from instant – taking 43 seconds before heat was felt 30cm away in our tests. And it could be sensed only within a 1.1-metre distance range of the plates.
