Multitools Tested: Budget

We put 14 top-sellers to the test to find our ace of blades

Multitools tested: budget

November 2006

Compact companion in the garage or emergency toolkit in your glovebox – nothing is more practical and flexible than a handy multitool. It's the ultimate foldaway gadget for your glovebox.

We tested 14, all of which featured pliers and varying numbers of blades, screwdrivers and other fittings. We divided them into premium and budget sectors at the £60 mark, which equates roughly to medium and large sizes.

Most of the tools came with a storage pouch, either made from tough fabric or leather – but which is the one you should go for?

Verdict

A clear win for the Suspension, providing class-leading quality, all-round ability and a super price which the Leatherman Blast couldn’t match.
