MP3 transmitters

February 2007

We linked the units to an Apple iPod 5G (30GB video), looking for easy-to-use products that doubled up as chargers. Having presets won marks, as finding a free frequency in built-up areas can be tricky, and these provide a quick way to get a suitable wavelength. We also assessed sound quality in a variety of situations, and all criteria were balanced against value for money.

Verdict

It's an easy win for the practical and stylish FM Cup, which has all the functions we were looking for, as well as a good price and great performance. It comfortably outpaced the second-placed Kensington RDS model, although the latter’s handy display feature works in its favour. In third position, the AirPlay Boost is the best for those not needing a 12V charging facility.
