Mobile Phone Holders

Which of these six kits gets the best grip of your mobile or in-car hands-free use?

Mobile phone holders

March 2007

Sales of hands-free kits have soared since heavier penalties for using a mobile while driving came into force last month. A key element of the new rules is that the driver can't hold a phone at the wheel. So stay within the law by fitting a kit that does the holding for you. But which is best?

The Test

Units that were easy to fit, simple to use and coped with different shapes of mobile won favour. We tried more than a dozen phones in each holder, checking for a secure grip. During testing on the road, we looked for holders with firm attachments both to the car and the phone. Price was also a consideration.

Verdict

Halfords wins both our awards here. Its Mobile Phone Holder has a flexible design and the sucker left no marks, while the versatile and easy-fit vent/bracket mounting kit is runner-up.
