If total car control is your dream, then the Don Palmer course could make it a reality. The day, held at Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground near Leicester, has fundamentals, advanced and mastery phases.

First of all, you’ll learn about steering, recognising the limits of grip, weight distribution and extreme handling. The advanced part of the programme covers heel and toe gearchanges, braking and smoothness. Then it’s the mastery section, which can be tailored to each candidate’s needs to include power slides and on-the-limit grip.

A two-day £1,500 session builds on techniques this course teaches. And for the ultimate in car control, there’s a two-day drifting course on Sweden’s frozen lakes, at £2,470.
