The Official DSA Complete Learner Driver Pack

Date: November 2007

  • Rating:

This pack has a theory test CD-ROM (with the Highway Code included as a PDF file) which is very useful, as you have the choice to revise, create custom tests or take mock exams. Answers and questions are spoken. The two other DVDs are accurate in content and factually correct, but the design isn’t very exciting, and there could be more interactivity. Although the price saves nearly £15 on buying the discs individually, it’s still the costliest solution we looked at.

Not quite the complete package but worth a look

With this being produced by the DSA itself it offers a level of authenticity other products can't.

I found the theory test questions to be particularly helpful and quite a lot of the questions asked on the disc provided were also asked when I came to sit my test. That was pretty invaluable, as was the fact it uses the same on-screen layout as the computers you take the test on.

Being able to familiarise yourself with things like that is a god send and means less things to worry about on the day of the test.

The practical section is pretty good too and although driving a car using a keyboard and mouse can't ever come close to the real thing it can certainly help with the routines you need to remember during the driving test such as M, S, M. For those who've yet to or have just recently started driving lessons the practical interaction shown should be of some use.

One of the main negatives with the DSA Complete Learner Driver Pack for me was the hazard perception content. There just weren't enough of the interactive mock tests for my liking. This con was offset a little though by the question and answer session that helps to define "a hazard" more clearly & what you should and shouldn't click for during the test.

Overall it is a decent product although I'd consider using another with it. In my case I had both this one and the Driving Test Success discs produced by Focus.

A bit more expensive getting the 2 products however the money you'll save by avoiding the dreaded FAIL should make it worth your while. I'm sure many will agree as well that £40 or thereabouts for peace of mind on the day of the theory test is a small price to pay.
