Tooled up: The kit you’ll require

Text: James Baggot Date: February 2008

You can’t tackle DIY well without a good set of tools. At the very least, you’ll need spanners, screwdrivers, pliers, sockets, axle stands and a trolley jack. Halfords offers this 127-piece set (£99.99) with pretty much all you need in an aluminium case. And don’t forget safety gear. Workshop gloves like these Ringers (left, £21), overalls and goggles are vital.

You’ll also have to consider parts. There are lots of online stores, which tend to cost less, or try the high street, main dealers and motor factors.
