Don’t dismiss Thule’s ‘softbox’ as a gimmick, as it has impressive storage capacity and is good to use. As the entire top unzips out of the way, it’s a doddle to fit on bars and load. And because the top moulds around what’s inside, we were able to get all but our sleeping bag in easily. Security is the major drawback, but the five-year guarantee reassures us of its durability.
