Even the most effective car air-conditioning systems can’t deal with the sun’s glare, which is where a shade can make summer driving so much more comfortable.
For those without the icy blast of climate control, blinds can ensure tempers do not rise at the same time as the temperature – and when carrying young children, they can make the difference between a pleasant day out and a screaming nightmare. A sunshade won’t break the bank, either, with many options costing less than a tenner. But which are the ones to go for? We tried 12 top-sellers to find out.
Key here was to find out how much glare the shades removed. Using a light meter inside our Skoda Fabia, we measured before and after each was installed. Ease of use was also assessed, including fitting, opening and closing, plus whether the window could be lowered for fresh air with the shade in place. Finally, we did a road test and calculated value for money.
There’s no doubt that the Aussies know a thing or two about dealing with the sun, and it is a second win for Shevron, following its success last time round (Issue 996). Its car-specific Window Sox provide perfect coverage at a price that compares well to the more expensive roller blinds.
For those on a tight budget, look no further than
the Sunshine Kids Cool Shade at less than £3. The ultimate solution has
to be from Privacy Shades: these look so good they could be left in the
car permanently and are easily worth the extra cost.
