Given the number of features crammed into the current generation of
sat-navs, you could perhaps forgive them for getting larger. However,
Garmin has now managed to shoehorn all its technology into a sleek
15mm-thick unit. That’s 25 per cent thinner than all other nüvis – yet
it still boasts six million Points of Interest (POIs) and a micro SD
card slot.
The nüvi 1340 range comes with built-in safety
camera detection software, lane assist, pedestrian mode and Western
Europe pre-loaded mapping.
The 4.3-inch widescreen unit
also has an EcoRoute setting, so you can view suggestions for
fuel-efficient navigation. A handy text-to-speech function calls out
the names of upcoming roads, as well as offering turn-by-turn
directions.
The lithium-ion battery should last for up to four hours and a two-piece suction-cup mount, which allows for easy adjustment and quick release, is also included in the pack.
* Maker’s claim: “The widescreen Garmin nüvi 1340 redefines portable, affordable navigation.”
