The law requires you to have a holder if you want to use your phone in your car.

But it also makes sense to get one for your MP3 player or PDA sat-nav, so they don’t obstruct your view or fly around in an emergency.

There’s a range of holders to cope with everything from slender mobiles to chunky iPods. We test 10 of the best.

The Test

We wanted our holders to accommodate a variety of phones and music players easily and safely.

Plus, we looked for a securing mechanism that gripped firmly and yet was easy to release.

We tested all the holders on the road, checking for vibration and rattles.

Price and build quality were our final considerations.

Verdict

Taking top honours was the Kondor Kit Mobile, with its easy to rotate arm and fast, spring-loaded holder. In second was the well built, simple to release Arkon 215, while Maplin’s neat Mini is perfect if you don’t like tell-tale circles left on your screen after removing a mount.

Dashbard Phone/MP3 Mounts

I wanted to purchase a low cost 'phone holder and decided on the Maplin Mini Phone Holder as this was in your top three. Unfortunately after searching the Maplin web site I could not find it. I emailed Maplin only to be informed that this product was no longer available.

Hi Barry,

Unfortunately you are correct that Maplin have stopped selling the Mini Phone Holder. However, the Kondor Vent Mounted Phone Holder received the same score and is the similar style, albeit £5 more expensive. For the money, our Best Buy delivered excellent results at a great value price, so I'd recommend that.
