Ever had passengers needing to check their E-mails in the car? Or do you have kids who want to surf the Net on long journeys?

Communications giant Dension has the answer with its Wi Drive – a black box that goes into your USB slot.

This makes the car a ‘discoverable device’ on a wireless network.

Then you simply plug a 3G USB dongle into the box, and the car becomes a wireless hotspot, giving Net access to laptops in the cabin.

And don’t worry if your car does not have a USB slot – the company sells a Gateway device with one that can be retro-fitted to your motor.

But there is more to the Wi Drive than simply Internet access, as it also enables you to turn your hatchback into a hard drive that you can remotely send files to.

This means you can wirelessly transfer multimedia files and data on to any storage device plugged into the Wi Drive’s USB port – such as a memory stick.

This, for example, cuts out the need to constantly update MP3 players, as your music collection can be transferred straight from your PC to the car.
