Sourced from electronics giant Maplin, this lightweight, one-LED torch feels like a budget option in this test.

The Nichia diode struggled to deliver a clean beam, with lines round the edges, although you do get a pouch and lanyard included for less than a tenner.

Also, that aluminium casing, with its hex-shaped ends, is easy to place under the bonnet.
