Six Nichia LEDs deliver a broad beam in this hefty, 2D battery-powered torch from Halfords.

But none of the diodes worked after the drop test – the only failure. This was a pity, as it had a lot of promise.

Light was okay over a distance, while it really scored under the bonnet, giving wide illumination, and its rubber casing is welcome in the cold.
