You voted the Apple iPhone as your Readers’ Product of the Year, as there are so many pieces of software – or apps – for drivers to download. The latest can guide you to parking spaces and warn about speed cameras, and here we pick from the best.

The Test

We downloaded six of each type from itunes.apple.com and looked for simple, clear interfaces and accurate info, plus features that used the phone’s camera or ability to share info. Price was a factor, but some apps will soon pay for themselves.

Verdict
Parking apps still have a way to go; we want to know how full a car park is before we get there. Most useful when looking for a space is the cheap, accurate and simple-to-use AA Parking, ahead of the free Parking Aid. One speed camera app will stay on our phone: CamerAlert. It’s really easy to get on with, costs only 59p, and outshines Speedwatch.
