We try the new budget radio-control car from Revell. But with a price tag of just £20, is it any good?

It sounds like a bargain: £20 for a radio-control car. But is the new Revell Outspeeder any good?

It comes with a cardboard ramp and turbo button, and can be used indoors and outside. We tried it on carpet and on a driveway, and liked the way the boost button helps you get a good height off the jump.

The suspension isn’t bad, either – while it’s no off-roader, it does soften your landings. But we have issues with the PlayStation-style remote. It isn’t very intuitive, and acceleration and steering are all or nothing. Pressing right, for example, means the car turns hard right. This makes it twitchy.

There are roll hoops to prevent you overturning, but they’re only flimsy wires that we ended up taking off.

There’s a USB charger, but the controller uses AA batteries. For £20, it’s not bad, but it won’t keep older kids amused for long. We think Revell’s far superior Audi R8 model is much better to drive.
