More than two million UK drivers are caught speeding every year - so the boom in speed trap detectors is no surprise. But which is best? Here, we test the top-sellers.
Two types of detector are available: ones which pick up radar and laser signals, or those that locate fixed camera sites. With the Government threatening to ban laser detectors, we've focused on the latter.
These devices use global positioning system (GPS) technology to tell where you are. They store the co-ordinates of each camera location, and warn you if one is nearby.
Users pay an annual subscription to keep this data accurate. Some locators also have a laser sensor, but this can be turned off to get round any ban.
Plug and play is the way to go for us, as these devices give detection ability in more than one car.
And the pick of the bunch in our eyes is the latest Road Angel, while the Talex is ideal for those buyers on a tight budget.
If you want the tidier look of an installed system, however, price gives the Micro RoadPilot an edge over the Origin B2.
