Tow Poles

Which towpole is at the front of the grid to get you home after a breakdown?

June 2005

It's the nightmare scenario - your car breaks down and can't be fixed, meaning you have to be towed to the nearest garage. Finding a rope may notpresent too many problems, but using a pole is safer and a better way to avoid damaging the vehicles if the towing car has to brake sharply. We went on the pull to test eight of the best on offer...

Verdict

Most of these poles are similar, and so our Best Buy goes to the package offering most value - Clarke's TB2S. Sealey's TPK2522 ended up relegated to second place, simply because it's more expensive. Third place goes to CJ's professional ST20P. It's not cheap, but is the only pole to offer the same sort of versatility as a rope.
