Cool Boxes

Chill out this summer with a cool box for the car. We pick our favourites

May 2006

With the temperature set to soar this summer, how will you stay cool? Even if you turn up the air-con, you still need refreshment. But there's nothing enticing about a tepid drink or soggy sandwich, which is why powered cool boxes are summer essentials. Fill them with food and drink straight from the fridge and they'll stay cold throughout the day, requiring no more than a little space and a cigar-lighter socket.

They come in all shapes and sizes but which is the coolest? To find out, we put eight best-sellers to the test.

Verdict

When you need to keep cool, look no further than Halfords' 20-litre box which brilliantly combines space, performance, capacity and price. If that is too much for your budget, check out the Mobicool X25. It's slightly bigger, but a little behind our champ in terms of cooling potential. If space is most important, go for the 30-litre Mobicool.

Top 3

  1. Halfords 20-ltr
  2. Mobicool X25 25-ltr
  3. Mobicool X30 30-ltr
