Matt rates: Snap-On

You won’t get far working on a car without a decent set of drivers. Matt uses professional Snap-On tools, but believes you need no more than three Phillips and three flat drivers. “Tools with shiny plastic handles can twist easily,” Matt explained. “We want large handles, preferably with rubber grips.”

Buyer’s guide: Go for quality, rather than quantity. Rubber grips are preferred, as is a carry case.

Our pick: Clarke Pro 122 (£17.57) from www.clarkeinternational.com
