TomTom GO

Price: £399

Screen size: 36cm2

An appealing design and great graphics give the GO a head start in route planning. There are options to avoid specific places and ways to personalise the system. But the in-built antenna often let us down. It was either unable to "see" satellites, even though the sky was clear, or it was confused by signal "echoes" in city areas, where users will need the most help. The unit is also too big for a pocket.
