4x4 tyres   Sports tyres
1. 4x4 tyres
Multi-purpose rubber is 35 per cent grooved. For off-road tyres, it’s 40 per cent, with wide-set 15mm-deep blocks.

2. Sports tyres
Shallow (5-8mm) cuts cover 35 per cent, due to water-pumping channels. Good at high speed in dry and in rain.

Winter tyres   Standard tyres
3. Winter tyres
Have similar groove area to sports tread, but more blocks, up to 10mm deep. Tiny strips give extra grip on snow and ice.

4. Standard tyres
Grooves 6-9mm deep cover 30 per cent of the tread. Suited to dry or wet roads, with some ability on snow.
