Overall Average Rating: 84.18%
Position in the Top 100 cars: 71st

While the Clio does nothing truly badly – the lowest score is for build quality – it doesn’t exactly shine at anything either.

Your votes were high enough to give average scores in all the driving dynamics categories, while comfort is rated below par.

Indeed, the only highlight of an otherwise nondescript scoresheet is 41st for reliability.

Manufacturer Verdict (Position: 34th)

Although it’s ahead of rival Peugeot, Renault won’t be happy to be second from bottom. Bosses will be hoping the new Twingo, Mégane and Laguna ranges can improve its standing next year.

You don't get much more bang for your buck than with the Clio 172 Cup. Light, agile, quick and immensely fun to drive, it is comfortably in the top 3-5 hot hatches ever made.

Day to day it's reasonably economical if driven sensibly and can keep up with more powerful cars costing 10 times it's price when you decide to up the pace.

Suffers from a lack of badge prestige with many people looking down on it as "just a Clio", but those in the know realise this little cars potential and I feel a duty to sing its praises whenever I can.

Did I mention I would love to work for the magazine?!

Comfortable, spacious and good quality. Could have better gearchange and less weight (had the same engine in Micra diesel and performed far better both in terms of economy and acceleration). Poor turning circle. Rather wide for a supermini. Overall, with low running costs, reasonable fuel economy and price it is appealing and is okay to drive (comforable ride and reasonable handling).

An efficient, engine with excellent torque for its size. The comfort is second to none. I would love an electric or hybrid version of the Clio as I do a high mileage and its not the most fuel efficient when I put my foot down - but its not bad. Overall an excellent town and motorway car that has good performance when you need it.

I think it's a good little car overall, I like the way it drives, it's comfortable and fun. But downside has been the sunroof, it was replaced twice and it still creaks whilst driving so we have given up with it. Renault couldn't fix it, so therefore I wouldn't go for Renault as first choice of car again.

It's temperamental. You have to reassure and comfort it before it will start. It's a little jerky pulling away, like it's frightened of the road. But, once it gets going on the motorway it's a confident little thing. It will over take well, and it puts out a decent speed for it's engine.

Great little runabout. Very practical, have managed to squeeze in 2 bikes and a weeks worth of holiday stuff. Great for buzzing about town, bit too slow for long motorway miles. Sits at high revs, drinking fuel, but overall a great little car.

Well equipped, generally reliable, fun, performance car for short squirts; but let down by poor ride/handling on real roads.
Impractical and uncomfortable for long journeys, or more than two people.
Unstable in cross-winds.

Renault Clio III 1.6 vvt. Very good car, reliable, comfortable, good on motorways, 5* NCAP rating, good economy and tax band. Performance is enough for a supermini. Would recommend
