According to information released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), van sales are on the rise.
The SMMT has said that customers have boosted commercial vehicle registrations by almost 15 per cent, resulting in a respectable performance in August for the van market, ahead of the plate change this month.
The Ford Transit is the UK's biggest selling van, shifting 27,867 units so far in 2013. Deservedly, the Ford Transit Custom won Auto Express' van of the year for 2013.
Another big seller is the Vauxhall Vivaro, which has sold 11,043 units in 2013 - it's a great, versatile van, with the option of six different body styles and one of the largest load capacities in its class. The Volkswagen Transporter isn't too far behind, selling 9,697 units - it's an excellent midweight van.
The SMMT confirms that: "For vans, August is always a quieter month ahead of the September plate change but the 9.4% year-to-date rise in volumes is set to be maintained through to year end."
Mercedes wasn't too far behind Volkswagen with its Sprinter, which sold 9,228 units. And Citroen managed to move 8,276 units of the Berlingo. Following these five, Peugeot's Partner, Volkswagen's Caddy, the Transit Custom, Toyota Hilux and Fiat Doblo Cargo all did reasonably well, too.
