New Ford Mondeo
Ford’s next generation Mondeo is totally fresh from the ground up with a striking new look

The UK’s favourite family car just got sporty! Featuring styling cues from the Iosis concept and S-MAX people carrier, the new Mondeo will be officially unveiled in Estate form at the Paris Motor Show this week. Sales will start in Spring 2007 alongside hatchback and saloon versions.
With a bold trapezoidal grille at the front plus bulging wheel arches and a rakish profile, the new Mondeo promises to take the sector by storm. Big leaps have been made inside too, with a high-quality cabin that gets LCD screen on the dashboard, a push-button starter for the first time and more space for passengers and luggage.
Based on new platform architecture that’s shared with Volvo’s S80 and Land Rover’s Freelander, the new Mondeo will back up its sporty looks with sharp steering and involving handling. Under the bonnet will be 1.6-litre petrol and 1.8-litre TDCI engines for entry-level models, while the Focus ST’s 2.5-litre five-cylinder turbo will sit at the top of the range. Best-seller is expected to be the 2.0-litre TDCI, though.
For the full story behind the new Mondeo, read this week’s issue of Auto Express, available now.
