Audi A7 Sportback 3.0 TDi

We drive the handsome Audi A7 Sportback in Sardinia. Can it compete with the likes of Mercedes and BMW?

The new A7 Sportback is Audi's entrant into the saloon-coupe market and besides the R8, we think it's one of the best looking models in the range.

With the Mercedes CLS and BMW 5 Series GT set firmly in their sites, Audi has produced a sleek four door hatchback that promises impressive ride and handling characteristics. We drove the 3.0-litre TDI engined model complete with Quattro four-wheel-drive and air suspension. Despite weighing nearly 1700kg, the balance of available grip, comfort and cornering ability were highly impressive.

The A7 comes with Audi’s improved dual-clutch seven-speed S tronic paddle-shift gearbox as standard which allows seemless shifts and suits the A7's competent, almost effortless handling.

Prices for the A7 Sportback start at £46,180 for our test model, although the list of options available allow customers to spec the A7 up to over £90,000. But, choose your options wisely and the Audi A7 has the looks and dynamic abilities to make a very strong case for itself.

Based on an entirely new floorpan, the A7 uses aluminium extensively throughout it's construction in an attempt to keep weight and emissions to a minimum.

The stylish, spacious cabin is a very pleasent place to be providing ample room for four adults and the boot is large with low, loading bay access.
