Work is underway to put BMW back at the top of the luxury car class

This exclusive video shows the German prototype testing in Germany, but will it be good enough to take on Mercedes’ latest S-Class? BMW hopes so, and the firm’s engineers are busy putting the finishing touches to the chassis set-up before the new model is revealed at September’s Frankfurt Motor Show.

Expect it to be more conservatively styled than the current car with a front end derived from the 6-Series. With larger dimensions all-round giving even more interior space, sales of the new model will start in 2008.
