Smart 5-Door

Smart is currently producing a five-door four-seater city-car in co-operation with Mitsubishi. Our pictures show a first prototype winter-testing in northern Sweden. While the exterior design - especially door handles, taillights and headlamps and the rear bumper - looks similar to the current two-seater Smart City Coupe, all technical details are completely different for the two cars that are to reach the showrooms in 2004.

Front-wheel-drive and transversely mounted front-engines distance the five-door Smart from its smaller brother and the new Coupe and Roadster that will make their debuts in 2003. For European markets, both, the Smart and the Mitsubishi, will be built in The Netherlands.
