Mazda MX Micro Sport

Here is proof at last. What was displayed as a concept car at this year's Detroit Motor Show in early January has made it into the final stages of production debelopment.

14th September 2004

The Mazda MX Micro Sport will be built, and here the exclusive pictures showing the car cold-weather testing on a frozen lake in northern Scandinavia. Based on a slightly lengthened and widened platform of the Mazda 2, the Micro Sport will mimic the concept of the Ford Fiesta Fusion: a tamed-down off-roader body, but fitted with front-wheel-drive only.

Power will come from a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol unit delivering 140 bhp through a six-speed manual gearbox, though less potent versions might follow later. Production is likely to start in late 2004.
